Morally improper to call Rajaram's descendants as Mahatma Phule's: Prof Hari Narke

Researcher on Mahatma Phule's life and works prof Hari Narke has said it is not morally proper to project the Rajaram Phule's descendants as those of Mahatma Phule as the latter gave importance to ideological inclination than biological lineage. Narke pointed out that Mahatma Phule himself had disowned his elder brother Rajaram by registering his will.

Narke said the report headline said three members of the Phule family, who are descendants of Mahatma Phule, had attended the event, which is far from reality as, Narke said, they are in no way descendants of Mahatma Phule.
He added that Mahatma Phule and his wife Savitribai had adopted the son of a Brahmin widow, who went on to become a doctor. While adopting the boy, Phule had put the condition that if the boy did not adhere to Satyashodhak Samaj principles, his wife should look for another one to adopt, Narke said, reiterating the fact that Mahatma Phule gave importance to ideological inclination rather than biological lineage.
The professor also said that Mahatma Phule's will had clearly mentioned that neither his elder brother Rajaram nor his son Ganpat could have any share in his property. "So when Mahatma Phule himself had disowned his brother, how can his brother's descendants claim to be Mahatma Phule's?" he asked.
