The Department of Biotechnology Ministry of Science and Technology Government of India recently published a book to celebrate the contributions of Indian women in Science. This book celebrates the success stories of 39 women scientists. The list includes two female physicians Dr Anandibai Joshi and Dr Kadambini Ganguly and excluded Dr Rakhmabai Save-Raut who was the first female physician to practice Medicine in India. Dr Raut contributed significantly not only in medical field but also women rights. This book commemorate the contributions from Dr Anandibai Joshi to Iravati Karve but fails to mention Savitribai Phule. Is it a mere coincidence that majority of women listed in this book belong to one particular caste?

मोदी सरकारच्या विज्ञान आणि तंत्रज्ञान खात्याने प्रकाशित केलेल्या "भारतीय स्त्रियांचे विज्ञान क्षेत्रातले योगदान" या ग्रँथात 39 महिलांचा गौरव केलेला आहे.त्यात डॉ.आंनदीबाई जोशी ते इरावती कर्वे यांच्या कार्याचा गौरव केलेला आहे. या यादीतून डॉ.रखमाबाई सावे-राऊत यांना वगळलेले आहे. या यादीत इरावतीबाई आहेत पण सावित्रीबाई फुले नाहीत.या यादीत बहुतेक सगळ्या स्त्रिया या विशिष्ट जातीतल्या असणे हा निव्वळ योगायोग असणार!
